Passenger dead, driver seriously injured in crash on I-75: FHP

SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) — A woman is dead and another is seriously hurt after their vehicle crashed off I-75 Saturday evening, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Around 6:36 p.m., the 72-year-old woman driver was traveling southbound on I-75 near mile marker 194 in the inside lane with her passenger.

To avoid slowing traffic, she swerved to the left, entered the median, and crashed with the tree line.

FHP said the 70-year-old woman in the car died at the scene.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.
