TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Bridget Ziegler, a Sarasota County School Board member and co-founder of Moms For Liberty, told police that there was not another threesome planned with her husband and the woman who accused him of rape, according to a supplemental police report obtained by News Channel 8.
In an interview with police on Nov. 1, Bridget Ziegler said she had a threesome with her husband, Christian Ziegler, and the other woman “once two years ago,” and that “there has not been any talk about another threesome.”
That woman later accused him of rape after a sexual encounter on Oct. 2. The woman said she had no interest in that sexual encounter if Bridget Ziegler wouldn’t be there, but police said Christian Ziegler showed up anyways.
Sarasota Police previously said they were unable to find probable cause to charge Christian Ziegler with sexual battery, because a recording of the encounter showed it “was likely consensual.” However, they asked the State Attorney’s Office to review the case for possible video voyeurism.
Christian Ziegler presented a recording of the encounter he had with the woman to police to prove that it was consensual. The woman told police in a follow-up interview that she did not consent to being recorded.
Bridget and Christian Ziegler have not been charged with any crimes.
In the Nov. 1 interview, Bridget Ziegler said she was surprised by the sexual assault allegation, but not the “extra marital activity,” according to police.
“Bridget said she does not think Christian would promise her to [redacted] to set up a date,” according to the supplemental report.
Christian Ziegler was removed from his role with the Florida Republican Party, and Bridget Ziegler has ignored calls for her to resign from the school board.
So, what comes next for the Republican Party of Florida?
“We’re really going to be looking from Evan Powers, for him to try and remake the Republican Party in the state of Florida to really run away from that ugliness that marked the Zieglers and to really focus on those traditional values,” said Tara Newsom, a political analyst.
“There’s two types of courts, right? The court of law and the court of public opinion,” Newsom said. “The GOP is more interested in making sure they don’t lose voters.”
