Allman Brothers guitarist Dickey Betts underwent surgery today after suffering a freak accident at his Sarasota County home on Monday.

Betts, 74, slipped while playing with his dog in the backyard of his home in Osprey, south of Sarasota. He cracked his head, causing bleeding on the brain.

He underwent brain surgery Friday and Betts’ friend and manager David Spero told News Channel 8 that it went well.

“His surgery was a success and they are hoping for a full recovery,” Spero said.

He said earlier this week that Betts’ condition was critical, but stable.

The “Ramblin’ Man” singer also suffered a mild stroke last month and was home recovering when he fell.

Betts is a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band. His November concert dates were canceled.
