Sarasota boy, 9, hit by car and seriously injured

SARASOTA, FL (WFLA) – A 9-year-old boy is at a hospital with serious injuries after he was hit by a car in Sarasota Sunday.

It happened soon after midnight Sunday. The boy and his mother were walking along the bridge on Siesta Drive when the boy darted in front of traffic and was hit by a car going west on the bridge, the witnesses told Sarasota Police.

The driver stopped after the incident and is cooperating with the authorities, according to SPD. The boy was taken to a hospital by helicopter. He has serious injuries, officers said.

Siesta Drive was closed from the bridge to Osprey Avenue for a few hours while detectives investigated the crash. They haven’t released any names yet.
