Lake Buena Vista – The Richard Petty Driving Experience at Disney World will remain closed for the rest of the week.
An instructor from Polk County was killed Sunday. A spokesperson for the experience told News Channel 8 the Daytona Exotic Experiences are canceled for this weekend, too.
New details were released Monday about driving instructor Gary Terry’s tragic final lap Sunday afternoon. He was a passenger in the car. Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes said video captured inside the Lamborghini shows the instructor made a last second attempt to get the car back on track as it spun out of control.

“The vehicle spun a couple of times and the passenger’s side of the Lamborghini ended up impacting a guardrail and that is how the passenger received fatal injuries,” Montes said.
Investigators believe the car was traveling about 100 mph at the time of the crash. It is the first time FHP has responded to a fatality at the Richard Petty Driving Experience.
“The driver and passenger had helmets on and they were both utilizing their seatbelts. The track itself had safety precautions and scenarios they go through,” Montes told News Channel 8.
Driver TaVon Watson, there for his birthday celebration, escaped the crash with minor injuries. He was released from the hospital and investigators said he was fully cooperating with them.
The investigation is expected to take up to 90 days and is far different than most.
“Under Florida law the rules on the road don’t apply on a closed race track so traffic rules don’t apply so what we’re doing now is a death investigation. Even though the car crashed it doesn’t go on a crash report,” Montes said.
