HOUSTON, Texas (KXAN/AP) – A recalled Takata airbag is being blamed for the death of a Texas teenager near Houston.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the 17-year-old died March 31 after her Takata airbag deployed in a crash. The teen is estimated to be the eleventh death related to the defective airbags, according to officials.
According to Honda, the car she was driving had been recalled in 2011, but the repair was never completed. Honda claimed several notices were sent to registered car owners notifying them of the recall.
14 automakers have recalled an estimated 24 million vehicles in the U.S. due to faulty airbag inflators. The inflators can explode with too much force in the event of a crash.
