ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – The Tampa Bay Rays have signed free-agent catcher Wilson Ramos to a two-year contract.

The contract is worth $12.5 million, with a chance for Ramos, 29, to earn an additional $5.75 million in incentives.

Ramos won the National League’s Silver Slugger award in 2016 and was named to the All-Star team, batting 148-for-482 with 22 home runs with the Washington Nationals.

Ramos suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during the end of the 2016 season and is expected to return sometime during the 2017 season.

The Rays did not say when they expect Ramos to return.

Ramos made his major league debut with the Minnesota Twins in 2010 and was then traded to the Nationals.

The Rays designated catcher Justin O’Conner for assignment to make room on the roster.
