Rangers, villagers in India rescue baby elephant that fell into well

Forest rangers and local villagers helped rescue a baby elephant from an unused well in India over the weekend.

The calf fell into the well while roaming near a village with its mother and the rest of the herd. Villagers realized something was wrong when they heard repeated trumpeting sounds near the trapped calf. They alerted rangers who arrived with a backhoe.

After a number of attempts, the calf was able to get out and quickly dashed to the forest where the herd was waiting.

Rangers said the calf wasn’t injured.
