LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) – The third rabies case of 2019 was confirmed in Polk County on Friday.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies received a call on Wednesday that a raccoon had been attacked by two dogs on Lakehurst Street in Lakeland.
The raccoon was killed by the dogs’ owner.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control impounded the raccoon, which was sent for testing.
The results were confirmed to be positive for rabies.
Both dogs had previously been vaccinated for rabies. Both dogs have been placed into 45 day quarantine.
