Sarasota man killed in crash after vehicle goes airborne, gets ejected from car on I-4: FHP

POLK COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A man speeding on I-4 early Saturday morning died after he was ejected from his car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Around 12:27 a.m., a 39-year-old Nokomis man in a Kia Sorento was heading east on I-4 when he overtook and struck another vehicle near mile marker 38.

That driver hit a 23-year-old Winter Springs man in a Hyundai Sonata, who was able to make a controlled stop.

However, the man in the Kia drove off the roadway and into the shoulder, striking an electrical box.

FHP said his vehicle then went airborne, struck a concrete traffic management equipment pole eight feet up from its base, breaking the pole, and then landed in a water-filled culvert.

The driver was ejected from the car and died at the scene.

The other driver had minor injuries.
