Polk County deputy sheriff arrested for domestic battery

A deputy sheriff in Polk County has been suspended from duty following an arrest for domestic battery.

According to an affidavit from the sheriff’s office, 46-year-old Deputy Sheriff Timothy Strickland pushed his wife to the ground late Friday night. She later told family members it happened when they got home from shopping and going to a bar.

The incident left the victim with bruises and scratches, according to deputies.

Investigators say the victim called her son after the incident happened and asked him to pick her up. The victim’s son then brought his mother to his home.

The son’s fiance was also home at the time. The affidavit states the victim told the other woman that this is not the first time something like this happened.

The victim’s son said his mother was going to sleep at his house but he saw her leave just after midnight. He called the sheriff’s office because he saw Strickland driving by his house just before his mother left.

Deputies then responded to Strickland’s home around 4:30 a.m. to speak with him and the victim. Strickland told them he picked his wife up at her son’s home after getting a call from her.

During an interview with deputies, Strickland admitted he pushed the victim to the ground twice while she was “flailing” her arms.

He was placed under arrest and taken to the Polk County Jail.

Strickland has been working for the sheriff’s office since September of 1998. He became a deputy sheriff in December of that year. He has been suspended pending an administrative investigation.
