A kerfuffle at a Walmart liquor store ended with a traffic crash and aggravated battery, DUI and driving without a license charges on Thursday.
According to the Winter Haven Police Department, Christopher Fields, 31, entered the store on Cypress Gardens Boulevard.
Shortly after, Frank Caley, 35, came into the store and approached Fields.
Caley began yelling at Fields for no reason. Fields said he didn’t know Caley and never had any interaction with him.
Fields backed away from Caley and told him to leave him alone when Caley picked up two large liquor bottles and held them up like he was going to hit Fields.
Fields backed into a corner and Caley hit him across the mouth with a bottle, knocking Fields to the ground where he briefly lost consciousness.
An associated tried to break up the incident.
Caley threw the second liquor bottle and left the store.
Fields was taken to Winter Haven Hospital to be treated for wounds to his mouth. He is expected to make a full recovery.
Caley was seen going towards the RV park directly behind Walmart.
Officers went to his home at the RV park, but were told by a neighbor he had just left in his SUV at a high rate of speed.
Shortly after, an off-duty Auburndale police officer witnessed a crash at Cypress Gardens Boulevard and Highway 27.
A sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene and found Caley out of his vehicle pacing around into the flow of traffic.
Caley continued to disregard lawful commands to be still and lit a cigarette.
He was arrested at the scene of hte crash by the deputy on charges of DUI, resisting arrest without violence and no valid driver’s license.
He was also charged by Winter Haven police for aggravated battery causing bodily harm and assault with intent to commit a felony.
