Multiple viewers sent us photos of what appears to be a funnel cloud that was spotted over Lakeland and Mulberry on Saturday.
The funnel-shaped cloud appears to have formed as a cold front moved through the area this afternoon.
Although these types of clouds can look a bit scary, it’s a fairly common phenomenon, according to Storm Team 8 meteorologist Ian Oliver.
“These can happen in unstable air masses following cold fronts, which is exactly what we had going on today. They look menacing, just like a tornado, but only very rarely reach the ground or do any damage,” Ian said.
The cold front, which has already dropped to the south, brings a chance for rain and cooler air on St. Patrick’s Day.
