WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (WFLA) — The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said that it has found the female suspect in a Saturday crime spree that later led to a deputy-involved shooting.
The sheriff’s office said that Saturday morning, Matthew Correa, 27, and Eileen Brackin, 43, of Auburndale stole a vehicle from a supermarket and robbed the Ramirez Tire Shop.
At this point of the investigation, it was not known who Brackin was, but she was seen on surveillance video during the robbery.
Correa was found two hours later and was wounded during an armed standoff with deputies, but Brackin was not with him.
The sheriff’s office said that anonymous tip identified Brackin from the surveillance video. Once they identified her, deputies learned that Brackin was arrested by Winter Haven police Saturday morning for violating her probation for possession of drug paraphernalia, booking her into the Polk County Jail.
According to the sheriff’s office, Brackin admitted to being with Correa during the crime spree. She potentially faces charges for grand theft of a motor vehicle, armed robbery, armed burglary with assault, and armed burglary of conveyance.
Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office said Correa will be facing charges for attempted first degree murder of law enforcement officer, armed robbery, armed burglary with assault, armed burglary of conveyance, grand theft of motor vehicle, fleeing to elude, false imprisonment, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a firearm by convicted felon, resisting with violence, and reckless driving.
As of this report, Correa was said to be in Lakeland Regional for treatment but would be released soon.
