Legislators have one week left in the session and are on track to pass the fewest number of bills since the legislature started meeting every year in 1968. Some of the bills getting the most attention are:

  • The budget — the only legislation that must pass before session recesses
  • The house passes a sanctuary cities bill that now sits in the senate
  • Distracted driving as a primary offense passes — but he senate may now bolster the issue with a hands-free ban in school and work zones
  • Arming teachers passes the house but teachers will still require approval from school districts
  • Firefighters will get cancer benefits as an on-the-job danger if Gov. DeSantis signs the bill
  • Hurricane Michael victims in the Panhandle are still waiting for support as congressional leaders unendingly debate
