Florida legislators have a week left in session and a lot left to do.

A bill arming teachers still has to pass the Florida House, where it has solid support, as it does from the governor. A bill banning sanctuary cities still needs senate approval.

Distracted driving as a primary offense passed both houses, but could now be bolstered by the senate with a hands-free requirement for school and work zones.

The bill giving increased benefits to firefighters for cancer treatment is on the governor’s desk and will likely become law this week.

Jane Castor will take office this week as Tampa’s new mayor. Her historic win will culminate in a swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday May 1.

The FAA will hold several public workshops this week around the Bay Area on how to make improvements to air traffic at Tampa Bay airports.
