Rep. Vern Buchanan has won re-election in Florida.
The Republican defeated Democrat David Shapiro in the 16th congressional district, which includes Sarasota and Manatee counties.
Shapiro won Sarasota County with 53 percent of the vote, but Buchanan had a stronger performance in Manatee County, winning more than 57 percent of the vote there.
