The Andrew Gillum gubernatorial campaign has fired a staffer for a series of offensive tweets, including one from 2013 that said Donald Trump should be executed.
8 On Your Side has confirmed with the Gillum campaign that outreach staffer Manny Orozco-Ballestas has been terminated from his position after the tweets caught the attention of Jacob Engels of the Central Florida Post.
Orozco-Ballestas, 24, posted several offensive and sexist tweets, many of which refer to women in derogatory terms. He also replied to a 2013 tweet by Trump, before the business mogul was elected president, telling him, “you need to be executed.”
The campaign team for Gillum, the Democratic candidate for Florida governor, says Orozco-Ballestas’ behavior does not align with their agenda.
“The type of language this young man used on social media before his employment with our campaign is unacceptable and he will no longer be working with the campaign,” said campaign spokesman Joshua Karp.
Orozco-Ballestas also made an Instagram post with a picture of himself wearing a t-shirt that depicted the states that voted for Trump as “dumbf**kistan.”
The Miami native has reportedly apologized to the campaign.
