Police: Driver involved in crash with TPD cruiser had drugs on him, gun in car

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – A driver ran a stop sign and was hit by a Tampa Police vehicle Wednesday evening, according to TPD.

The crash happened at the intersection of North 34th Street at East 28th Avenue. The driver ran the stop sign and was hit by the cruiser.

The officer received minor injuries. The driver got out of the car and tried to run away but the officer apprehended him.

Police found a significant quantity of crack cocaine, pills of an unknown type and marijuana on the driver. Officers also located a stolen firearm in the car.

The intersection is closed for the on-scene investigation.
