TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The vest that couldn’t stop a bullet which killed a man in Tampa this weekend was not a bulletproof vest, after all, Tampa Police officers said Monday.
The fatal shooting took place Saturday night in Tampa. According to TPD, Joaquin Mendez, 23, wondered if a vest he had would still stop a bullet. His cousin Alexandro Garibaldi, 24, wanted to help him find out. He shot Mendez. The man died at a hospital from his wounds.

TPD officers confirmed Monday that the vest was not meant to stop a bullet. In fact, it was a fragmentation protective vest, which is commonly referred to as a flak jacket.
Garibaldi is in jail on the charges of manslaughter with a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm.
He has a criminal history in Hillsborough County, he has been arrested before on several drug charges, resisting an officer without violence and discharging a firearm in a public place or on a resident.
