PLANT CITY, Fla. (WFLA) – A suspect wanted in connection with a robbery Saturday afternoon is in the hospital after being shot by a Plant City police officer.
Around 1:45 p.m., someone called police regarding a theft in progress in the 100 block of Drane Street in Plant City, according to a media release. While police were able to confront the male suspect near his vehicle, he then fled from the officer.
Police said a confrontation between the officer and the suspect began and the officer shot the suspect in self-defense, the release stated.
The unidentified male suspect was taken to the hospital. His condition was not immediately available.
County and state agencies are investigating, which is standard in an officer-involved shooting. The officer was not injured.
