Plant City, FL (WFLA) – A 9-year old boy was shot Wednesday afternoon at his home in Plant City. Authorities say his injuries are serious but not life threatening. Investigators tell us the 9-year old and his 11 and 13 year old brothers were home alone in their Turkey Tree Lane home. Their mother and adult sister were at work. The mother had her boyfriend’s 45-caliber handgun padlocked in her room according to deputies.
Detectives believe the boys took the door off its hinges, got the gun and went outside and shot it for 45 minutes. The boys them returned the gun to the home and left the room. At some point, the 9 and 11 year old went back into the room and the gun went off, hitting the younger child. Authorities are continuing to investigate.
