CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) – Wastewater is overflowing into Clearwater streets because of a treatment plant failure.
A pump station at the Marshall Street wastewater treatment plant shut down because of mechanical problems. The plant is rated to treat 10 million gallons of wastewater a day, but has received 30 million gallons with the heavy rains, officials said.
“The system is now backing up, and the wastewater is overflowing through the manholes at locations served by this treatment plant,” officials said.
Crews are working to get rental pumps. They’re also barricading the streets around the plant.
