VIDEO: Booze, shoe thieves sought in connection with burglaries in downtown St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – Detectives are searching for at least four thieves believed to be connected to several business burglaries in St. Petersburg.

Around 8:45 pm on August 14th, police said two men and two women strolled into the Shoe Carnival on 9th Street.

The group is seen on camera leaving moments later.

One of the women was carrying two Nike shoe boxes.

Investigators said the other woman hid shoes in her clothes.

“One of the suspects tucked the shoes in her scrubs, another one just walked out with two pairs of shoes, but in all they stole eight pairs of shoes,” said Sandra Bentil, Public Information Officer with the St. Petersburg Police Department.

The estimated loss from the Shoe Carnival is $500.

From the shoe rack to top shelf, police said the same group walked into the Winn Dixie on 4th Street North, about an hour later.

“Hennessey, Patron and when the cashier pulled them from behind the shelf and sat them on the counter to ring them up, they snatched it and took off and ran,” said Bentil.

Police released surveillance of the burglary at Winn Dixie last week.

Detectives compared notes when staff with Shoe Carnival reported their burglary.

“They’re dressed exactly the same. There’s no doubt these are the same people,” said Bentil.

Customers shopping at Winn Dixie Wednesday, couldn’t believe it.

“I think these people are stupid, well cause they got to know they’re gonna get nailed eventually,” said one shopper.

Another woman said, “They need to be a little more vigilant about when they see groups coming in.”

Detectives said the thieves made off with $350 worth of liquor.

If you think you know any of the suspects or may have seen these crimes taking place, please call St. Petersburg Police immediately at 727-893-7780, or text SPPD and your anonymous tip to TIP-411 (847-411).
