PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A vehicle fire caused significant delays for hundreds of drivers Monday evening who traveled down the southbound lanes of I-275 on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.
Around 5:40 p.m. a traffic camera pointed at the Skyway bridge captured massive flames and plumes of smoke billowing from the vehicle fire.
All lanes headed into Manatee County were temporarily shut down while fire crews put out the flames. Since then, drivers were told to merge into the left-hand lanes.
As of 8 p.m., cameras showed the traffic jam mostly cleared.
The incident did not impact northbound lanes.
