TAMPA (WFLA) – The southbound lanes of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge were closed Monday evening after a crash sent an SUV up across a barrier and partially hanging over water.
The crash happened after 8 p.m. Monday in the southbound lanes of I-275 near the 11.5 milepost, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP said two vehicles were traveling south in the outside lane approaching the construction zone on the bridge. As the vehicle in front was stopped for merging traffic, the second car collided with it, sending it up on to the bridge barrier.
The car in the back rotated and came to a rest in the roadway.
The bridge eventually reopened but delays were still expected and drivers were asked to use caution while traveling in the area.
Troopers said no one was injured in the crash.
