Scratching, gnawing and pounding noises are driving a St. Petersburg apartment renter nuts.
Brittany Hundley believes animals are living in her attic.
It’s gotten so bad, Hundley says she can’t even sleep in her bedroom.
She thinks rodents, or perhaps raccoons, have set up shop in her ceiling and walls.
“It’s like half of my ceiling I hear sounds and two of my walls,” said Hundley.
Since last Thanksgiving, when Hundley moved into her third floor unit at the Inlet Bay Apartments at Gateway, she said the odd noises started.
“I hear like, scratching and thumping. Now that there are more of them, I hear running. They got babies in the last month, so I hear babies like crying or whimpering,” said Hundley.
Go-Pro video of her attic didn’t spot any signs of rodents or raccoons, but there is a large trap.
Hundley also claims her bedroom smells of urine.
News Channel 8 gave it the “sniff test” and couldn’t detect any foul odors.
Apartment management didn’t respond to calls and a visit, but a representative, Jessica Price, wrote Hundley, “I want to make sure that these issues are taken care of and that you feel comfortable living in your home.”
“They’ve come out almost every month since I’ve moved in. And every attempt was some kind of bait that was for mice that has no effect for anything bigger than that,” said Hundley.
Now roaches are invading her sleeping area.
“About a week ago, I started sleeping in my living room,” said Hundley.
Until all the pests are gone, she’s avoiding her bedroom all together.
Management is promising to help.
“I do understand your concerns and can assure you that [they] are taking the necessary actions to resolve this,” wrote Jessica Price.
