Scooter driver dies from injuries suffered in crash with car in St. Pete

A scooter driver has died from injuries suffered when his scooter was involved in a crash with a car in St. Pete on Monday.

St. Petersburg police say the accident happened shortly after 5 p.m. at 36th Avenue N and 16th Street.

According to police, a Hyundai Elantra driven by Terry Joiner, 61, was traveling northbound on 16th Street North.

A 2017 Zhongneng motor scooter driven by Michael Cardinal, 51, was stopped a stop sign, then moved forward and failed to yield to Joiner on 36th avenue North.

Police said Cardinal was not wearing a helmet and suffered life-threatening injuries.

He was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he died from his injuries.
