Stuck under a truck. Pinellas deputies had to call in K-9 and St. Petersburg rescue crews to arrest a woman who hid under a semi.
But her recent trip to jail doesn’t being to tell her story.
Her name is Nanci Crandall.
Arrest records show her downward spiral began more than a decade ago.
Starting in 2007, Pinellas County Jail arrest records and booking photos paint a picture of a young woman with a drug problem.
There are arrests for meth, Oxycodone, pot and prescription drugs that weren’t hers.
With each mugshot, her face shows the toll taken, leading up to Tuesday’s arrest, where K-9 handler Deputy Bryan Byers and Hector found her wedged under a truck.
The Clinic Director of Footprints Beachside Recovery Center in Treasure Island said she sees people like Nanci Crandall every day.
“Most of the time, they know their life has become unmanageable. It’s difficult to find the help and seek the help,” said Laura Pasker.
Nanci Crandall has 53 arrests showing on the Pinellas County jail web site.
She spent a year in prison on a drug charge.
“A lot of times, people have gotten addicted due to prescription pain abuse. They actually had a chronic pain, they’ve been prescribed the opioids, the tolerance builds up. They need more and more,” said Footprints President John Templeton.
Crandall has arrests for DUI, battery, retail theft and prostitution.
“I like to really think of addiction kind of like a weed, like on your lawn, you spray weed killer on it, it grows back. You spray week killer, it grows back, but there’s these underlying roots we don’t always see,” said Pasker.
8 On Your Side tried to contact Crandall’s relatives. Nobody answered the calls or returned messages.
At the Footprints Beachside Recovery Center the clinic director and president said there is hope for everyone to turn their life around.
