A Center Academy student is facing a felony charge after he posted a photo of himself on Snapchat holding a BB gun.

William Freeman, 18, of Holiday was arrested at the school Wednesday and taken to the Pinellas County Jail.

At about 11:30 a.m., deputies were called to the school, which is located in Palm Harbor, after another student reported seeing a photo of Freeman standing in front of a mirror holding what appeared to be a handgun.

The photo was captioned “Don’t Come to School Today (It’s a BeBe Gun),” authorities said.

Freeman later admitted to taking the photo and posting it on Snapchat, but said it was a joke that was meant to be seen in a private group chat. He said the gun he was holding was a BB gun and he had no plans to cause any harm at the school, deputies said.

Deputies later determined the gun was, in fact, a BB gun.

Freeman is charged with false report about planting a bomb, explosive or weapon of mass destruction, a felony.

He’s being held on a $10,000 bond.
