The case of a Pinellas County woman accused of killing her 2-year-old, and lying about it was heard again in court Monday morning.
Largo police investigators said Charisse Stinson made up an elaborate story back in September, which led to an Amber Alert in search of her little boy, Jordan Belliveau.
Stinson’s defense team told Judge Michael Andrews Monday that they have not taken sworn statements from witnesses because they believe the state could soon make an offer.
The defense spoke in private at the judge’s bench most of the time during the short hearing.
Public defenders said they need to speak with State Attorney Bernie McCabe about the possible deal.
Stinson did not appear in court Monday.
She was last in front of the judge back in February after initially refusing to appear.
That was her first appearance in court following the recent birth of her daughter while in jail. That child is now being cared for by the same foster parents who also took care of Jordan.
Prosecutors said Stinson killed Jordan back in September shortly after regaining custody of him.
They said she made up a lie about someone kidnapping the toddler. Jordan’s body was later found in the woods and Stinson was later charged with his murder.
An autopsy report revealed the child suffered a severe injury to the head.
The state attorney has decided not to seek the death penalty in this case. The next pre-trial hearing will take place on Tuesday, May 21.
