A man riding a moped being towed by another vehicle was killed in an accident in St. Petersburg on Monday.

Police are investigating the crash that occurred on MLK Street South at Melrose Avenue around 10 p.m.

According to police, Thomas Alexander, 74, was traveling south on Dr. MLK Street South in the middle lane.

Delanard Matthews Jr., 17, was traveling north on the road in the center left turn lane, preparing to turn onto Melrose Avenue South.

The moped, ridden by a 30-year-old man, was being towed behind Matthews’ vehicle with a towing strap.
