Police and firefighters are investigating what they call a suspicious situation at a bank in Clearwater.

Crews responded to Centennial Bank on U.S. 19 North just after 2 p.m. According to police, someone at the bank noticed a suspicious substance on an envelope that was left at the business by a former employee.

According to fire rescue officials, there was some kind of blue liquid in the envelope. When a bank employee touched the liquid, firefighters say it burned his fingers. The employee was taken to Bayfront Medical Center where he was treated and released.

As a precaution, authorities evacuated the bank. They started letting employees back inside just before 4 p.m.

A hazmat team is also at the scene to help with the investigation. The FBI is also investigating because the situation involves a bank.
