A Largo woman who was apparently evicted from her apartment left her two cats behind to fend for themselves, according to an affidavit.
The cats were found abandoned in an apartment on Belcher Road. Both appeared to be malnourished, the report states.
Largo police said Taylor Lynn Gossard, 25, abandoned the apartment and left the animals with nothing to drink. There was a small bag of cat food sitting on the counter. The bag was ripped open and the food was gone. Police believe the animals ate part of the bag as well.
Judging by the amount of excrement found throughout the apartment, police believe the cats had been there alone for at least two weeks.
Police said neighbors hadn’t heard from Gossard in over a month. An eviction notice from Dec. 3 was found hanging on her door.
Gossard was arrested and charged with animal cruelty, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and possession of paraphernalia. She’s being held at the Pinellas County Jail on a $4,300 bond.
