The Largo Police Department is exploring the use of falcons and hawks as a substitute for aerial drones just in time for April Fool’s Day.

The police department says the “trained police falconers will deploy the birds of prey carrying video cameras for surveillance at critical incidents, missing persons, any mission where air support with a low carbon footprint would assist officers. “

Largo police goes on to say that the birds are extremely stealthy and would even be great in undercover work. Much like police K9s, police raptors would live with their partners.

Deputies do want to remind everyone this highly sustainable program is just an April Fool’s joke but hopes you enjoyed the fun!
