The Fourth of July fireworks in Gulfport are now being held on July 5.

The city of Gulfport officials said the severe weather forced them to cancel the fireworks show Wednesday night.

Creative Pyrotechnics advised they are launching the show tonight from the Williams Pier at 9 p.m. It supposed to last 20 minutes.

The city of St. Petersburg blamed the fireworks failure on the vendor. The show won’t be rescheduled.

The city’s Leisure Services Administrator says they will not pay for the show and will never use the company they contracted with again.

St. Petersburg hired Creative Pyrotechnics of Orlando to set off fireworks.  Mike Jefferis, the city Leisure Services Administrator called the company a “premier” event maker and says the city has used them successfully for many other events, but Jeffries repeated several times the city will not hire Creative Pyrotechnics again saying, “We’ve lost confidence in them.”

Jeffreis maintains city staff checked in with the company at several times on Wednesday and were assured that all was well.

Just before the show was set to go off,  a company representative informed the city they did not have enough material to put on a full show.

At that point city officials had the option of putting on a partial show and canceling the entire production.

Jeffreis says they opted to not put on a show and all and decided to not pay the company for their failure.
