Pinellas County deputies are investigating a near drowning of a Tampa man on North Redington Beach on Thursday.
According to the sheriff’s office, Deputy Dustin Hansen was conducting beach patrol behind 17250 Gulf Boulevard on North Redington Beach around 1:49 p.m.
He saw two people dragging an unresponsive man from the water.
Deputy Hansen assisted the good Samaritans, Leticia Godinez, an off-duty registered nurse, and Christopher Minamyer, in pulling the man to shore.
The victim, later identified as Daniel Mikos, 63, was unresponsive and not breathing.
Godinez and Minamyer gave Mikos CPR.
Deputy Hansen called for paramedics and assisted with back blows when Mikos became responsive, coughing and choking on sewater.
He was taken to Largo Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses told Deputy Hansen that Mikos was by himself on the beach when he walked about 25 feet out into the water and disappeared.
A concerned citizen noticed he had not resurfaced and started yelling for help.
The incident appears to be accidental in nature.
