ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – A body was found near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge Wednesday night shortly after a fire was reported, police say.
St. Petersburg police were called to the scene shortly before 8 p.m. on Wednesday for a grass fire in a heavily wooded area near the rest area on the north side of the Skyway Bridge.
Officers were assisting with traffic as fire crews worked to extinguish the fire. Once the fire was under control, firefighters discovered a body in the debris.
An arson investigation is now underway.
Investigators were on the scene late into the night working to collect evidence.
