St. Pete police are investigating a motorcycle crash that left two people with serious injuries Saturday afternoon.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Haines Road and 19th Street N. at about 1:50 p.m.
David Rankin, 63, and Allegro Rankin, 60, were riding a 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, heading eastbound on Haines Road when they were struck by a 2014 Lexus GS350 driven by 20-year-old Joseph Zopf II, police said.
According to police, Zopf was stopped at a stop sign and “failed to yield” before he drove into the intersection and hit the motorcycle.
Both David and Allegro Rankin suffered serious injuries after they were thrown from the bike. They were taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg to be treated for their injuries.
Police said they both wore helmets and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
An investigation is ongoing with charges pending, according to the report.
