A downtown Tampa waterway turned “Lightning Blue” Saturday in preparation for Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final.
The Tampa Bay Lightning’s mascot “ThunderBug” and Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn were on hand for the ceremonial pouring of a special Lightning Blue colored dye into Garrison Channel. Garrison Channel is adjacent to the Amalie Arena
Tampa Water and Stormwater Department crews, who are the same teams who dye the Hillsborough River Kelly green for St. Patrick’s Day, were in charge of the dying process.
“Tampa does a better job dyeing our river green for St. Patrick’s Day than Chicago does. We want to show Blackhawks fans how it’s done, and what better way to do that than dyeing the channel ‘Bolts Blue’ outside the Amalie Arena,” said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. “We want the Stanley Cup back in Tampa. Let’s go Bolts!”
The Garrison Channel is bounded by Harbour Island Bridge to the west and Beneficial Bridge to the east. The dye is potable water grade, non-toxic, and biodegradable.
The Tampa Bay Lightning will reimburse the city for all costs associated with the dyeing.
The Tampa Bay Lightning take on the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final at 7:15 p.m. at the Amalie Arena.
