CLEARWATER, FL (WFLA) — Clearwater Police are working a fatal pedestrian accident at Belcher Road and Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard. Westbound lanes are closed at this time.
Police say the call came in just before 6 a.m. The pedestrian was pushing an empty wheelchair across Gulf-to-Bay when the accident happened.
The van that struck the pedestrian was in the middle lane westbound just east of Belcher Road. The accident happened fewer than 100 yards from the intersection, where there is a marked crosswalk and traffic signals to facilitate safer crossings. ‘
All lanes of Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard near Belcher Road have reopened.
The victim was identified as Jonathan Ring Hibbard, 66, of Clearwater.
