NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (WFLA) – A Pasco County inmate helped rescued a baby accidentally locked in a car in New Port Richey on Thursday.
According to Pasco County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kevin Doll, deputies received a report of an infant who was accidentally locked inside an SUV at the West Pasco Judicial Center.
When deputies arrived, it was 56 degrees outside and the baby appeared to be comfortable in a car seat.
Several minutes went by as the parents could not enter the SUV and could not afford a locksmith.
The father told deputies he was going to break the front driver window.
A Pasco Sheriff’s Office Inmate supervisor and trustee crew were working in the parking lot a few feet away and some of the trustees offered to help.
The father of the infant pried the front door open just enough for the trustee to use a coat hanger to push the electronic door lock open.
The parents made sure their child was fine and thanked everyone for their help.
The baby’s mother, Shadow Lantry, shared video of the rescue with News Channel 8.
