Rushe Middle School evacuated on first day of class due to hoax

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The possible threat that prompted the evacuation of Charles S. Rushe Middle School Wednesday morning turned out to be a hoax, authorities said.

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said it evacuated the Land O’ Lakes school out of an abundance of caution after a “hoax bomb threat” from last year was posted on social media over the weekend.

Deputies searched the school, but didn’t find anything suspicious. Eagle 8 flew over the school and saw hundreds of students outside the building. They went back inside about 15 minutes after the chopper arrived at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said classes resumed and there is currently no threat to the school.
