The Pasco County Florida Department of Health has issued a rabies alert for the county Wednesday.

According to the department, the alert is in response to a cat that tested positive for rabies on March 19. 

All residents and visitors in Pasco County should be aware that rabies is present in the wild animal population and domestic animals are at risk if not vaccinated. The recent alert is for 60 days and includes the following area boundaries in the New Port Richey area: 

  • – West of Madison Road
  • – South of Trouble Creek Road
  • – East of U.S. 19 Hwy
  • – North of Sunray Road
