Newly-released police documents reveal fired Pasco County Corporal Steven Walker crashed into a parked car and refused to submit a breath sample the night he was arrested.

On Sunday morning, a sheriff’s office spokesman confirmed that Cpl. Walker’s employment was “being terminated.” The spokesman said Walker was arrested by New Port Richey police but did not provide any additional details.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained Tuesday by WFLA, police were called to Delaware Avenue in New Port Richey around 2:45 a.m. Saturday for a car crash. The responding officer says Walker admitted that he was driving and crashed into a parked car.

The arrest report states the crash caused heavy front-end damage to both cars involved. The responding officer said a mailbox was also damaged.

According to police paperwork, Walker told the officer he had been driving alone when a dog or a coyote ran in front of him, causing him to swerve and hit the car. When the officer asked why Walker would swerve toward where the animal was running, Walker said he predicted the animal to “act like a squirrel and run back and forth on the road.”

The responding officer noted in his report that it appeared Walker was not taking the investigation seriously.

“Walker began to make swooshing sounds and wave his arm back and forth to describe the running pattern an animal would make,” the affidavit says. “Walker was pausing every few words to laugh about his comments.”

In the affidavit, the officer said he noticed Walker’s eyes were glassy and partially closed. The officer also wrote that he smelled alcohol on his breath and noticed he was slightly slurring his speech. When the officer stepped closer, he said Walker lowered his tone of voice and began to mumble his words “in attempts to mask the odor.”

The officer wrote in his report that Walker said “no thank you” to performing field sobriety exercises at the scene and later refused to supply a breath sample.

Walker was arrested for DUI and DUI property damage. He was taken to Northbay Hospital to be checked from the crash and was then transported to Land O’ Lakes Jail.

Walker was a popular figure within the sheriff’s office and had a large fan base online due to his appearances on the television show “Live PD.”
