TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Interstate-75 is back open in Pasco County after officials shut down both directions to investigate a “suspicious incident.”
Aerial footage from Eagle 8 HD showed a large police presence near the southbound off-ramp at State Road 52 on Thursday.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, contractors with the Florida Department of Transportation discovered a suspicious item near the shoulder of the ramp. It appeared to be a potential explosive device.
The Tampa Police Department’s bomb squad was called to investigate. The item was removed from the area and will be tested by explosive experts with the State of Florida.
The interstate was shut down between Blanton Road and Overpass Road, which is near San Antonio and Dade City. It reopened just before 11 a.m.
