Tampa man struck by 3 vehicles while trying to cross I-75 on foot in Pasco County

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Southbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Pasco County have reopened after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a 41-year-old Tampa man and his 20-year-old son were stopped along I-75 after their car broke down at around 5 a.m.

The father tried to run across the southbound lanes near State Road 56 when he was struck by three vehicles. FHP said the man died from his injuries at the scene of the crash.

Authorities closed all southbound lanes of the roadway, causing backups for nine hours. Motorists were diverted onto the shoulder to get around the crash.
