Pasco County deputies arrested a man they said fired a gun into a driver’s back passenger window during a road rage incident in Land O’ Lakes.

Detectives said Melvin Seda Jr., 27, fired a gun near a daycare and shattered someone’s car window during the incident.

Seda was texting and driving on July 12 when deputies said he almost swerved into another car on SR 54 around 3 p.m. that day.

Deputies said the driver honked his horn and then Seda went off.

Seda is accused of threatening to shoot the man while yelling out of his window, according to deputies.

Deputies said Seda followed the man down Ballantrae Boulevard and within seconds, shot out the victim’s back passenger window at Mentmore Boulevard.

A daycare and two playgrounds are located at this intersection.

“It was definitely something that escalated rather quickly that should not have happened but unfortunately it did,” said Pasco County Sheriff’s Office detective Joshua Hanson.

Deputies said that during the fit of road rage, Seda had a friend in the passenger seat who tried to get out after he fired the shot.

The driver was the only person in the other car and decided not to make any on-camera remarks to News Channel 8 about the case due to safety concerns.

Deputies said the bullet landed in the victim’s back seat and that no one was hurt.

Seda is facing felony charges and is locked up in the Land O’ Lakes jail.

Detectives said he does have a concealed weapons permit but now they’re looking to have it taken away.
