A Kansas family may have to pay a hefty bill after their child knocked over a sculpture while playing at a community center.
Sarah Goodman and her children were at the Tomahawk Community Center in Overland Park for a wedding reception when the incident happened, according to our NBC affiliate KSHB.
Video released by the city shows the kids running around, and then shows one of them hugging a glass mosaic torso.
Eventually, the sculpture tips over and falls onto the ground.
“I hear yelling, ‘Where is your mother?'” Goodman said. “My children are well supervised but all people get distracted.”
The insurance company is now asking Goodman and her husband to pay $132,000 for negligence.
But the mother says this could have happened to anyone, and argues the display wasn’t secured.
“It’s in the main walkway – not a separate room, not Plexiglas, not protected, not held down,” she said.
She also told KSHB she’s disappointed no one ever asked if her son was okay after the sculpture toppled on top of him.
The Goodman family says they are reaching out to another insurance provider for help.
