A Florida Fish and Wildlife officer found a 16’10” python Monday. The officer was patrolling during the first weekend of the Python Removal Competition.

The large Burmese python was sunning itself on a levy when the officer found it in the Rocky Glades Small Game Area. The python was “humanely euthanized.” Scientists will collect valuable data from the snake, FWC officials said.

It’s not too late to participate in the Python Removal Competition in South Florida. You can compete for thousands of dollars in prizes and help protect the Everglades. Information about the challenge is available here.
